Peruvian startups shine at Seedstars LatAm Summit

By December 17, 2018

The Seedstars World gathering in Peru earlier this month saw homegrown startup Rebajastuscuentas.com win the event’s Public Prize.

The financial advice website that helps with mortgage credit and debt payments was among some of the region’s emerging startups at the Seedstars LatAm Summit in Lima. The Peruvian startup founders hope to improve “financial illiteracy” among millennials who often don’t know what kind of deals they get themselves into when making larger purchases for their home-owning future.

“The best thing about the event was connecting with other startups and investors,” said Sully Siucho from Rebaja tus cuentas.

Some 300 participants came to the industry gathering, including startups and investors. This year’s underlying topic was what Latin America can do to meet proposed changes set forth by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Another highlight for the Andean country came when the host and startup promoter Seedstars World announced it would be opening a coworking space in Lima for entreprenuers and startups to come together and create the country’s next big ideas under one roof.

“These spaces are not just co-working. They cultivate productivity, connections, and become a place where people can collaborate within the ecosystem. That’s why we’re so excited to bring a Seedspace to Peru,” said Juliane Butty, Seedstars LatAm Regional Manager of the benefits of a coworking space.

With a dozen startups from the region getting to participate in the Seedstars Growth Bootcamp and getting hands-on advice from industry leaders, the Latin American region’s startup scene was able to unify for a few days in Peru.

“Seedstars was the first real exposure to high-quality entrepreneurs and startups, it was the first window we had to understand a true startup ecosystem. Our partnership with Seedstars has been crucial for getting us to where we are now, particularly in helping us receive one of the highest rounds of investment for a digital startup, ” said speaker and Seedstars Alumni, Carlos Jordan, CEO and founder of Bolivia’s Ultracasas.
